About Us
“We do not steal from our bees, instead make sure they always have more than they need.”
STORY BEHIND OUR HONEY

The story of Maksika begins with our bees. They visit hundreds and thousands of flowers, absorbing the precious nectar and storing it in their extra stomach.
The nectar mixes with the various enzymes in the stomach, partially digesting it. Once the bees are back from their foraging, they transfer this partially digested nectar to another bee who repeats the process till they reach the honeycomb where it is finally deposited.
Given that this form of honey isn’t conducive to long term storage due to the high moisture content, they fan the honeycomb with their wings to speed up the process to evaporate the extra moisture. Once the liquid becomes thicker, the bee seals the comb with a secretion of liquid from its abdomen, which eventually hardens into beeswax.

Our experienced beekeepers then carefully harvest it to preserve all the nutrients that nature intended, providing the highest possible levels of live enzymes, vitamins, minerals and antioxidants as a functional whole food. Only a part of the honey is harvested to ensure the bees have enough and more to sustain their requirements.
The unpasteurized honey is then bottled in jars which are works of art in themselves.
And that’s how you get a jar of Maksika Honey. That’s how you get bottled happiness.
OUR PHILOSOPHY
We have made a set of promises not just to you, our customers but ourselves as well. Those set of rules is what makes Maksika what it is.
FINDING THE BEST HOME
We’ve always gone to great lengths to make sure there are no contaminants in our honey. Hives are carefully placed in India’s incredibly remote, green back country – where the air’s clean and the Flowers blooming. Good news. For bees and you.
IN SAFETY WE TRUST
It’s all ours, until it’s all yours. We only sell honey which we would like to eat ourselves – all our batches are independently tested and approved to ensure quality at every step from bee to you and that it stays that way.
IN SEARCH OF PARADISE
To find their preferred nectar, a bee will fly 6-10 km each day in any direction. We make sure she can access the highest concentrations of Flower nectar around themselves to cut short their travelling time and increase their foraging time.
FRIENDS, WITH BENEFITS
To bring you honey from India’s best locations, we go out of our way to make sure all stakeholders get a fair deal. Our relationships are built on honesty, trust and knowledge sharing. How else can we stay true to our philosophy?
TEAM STORY
It all started when…

Rishabh Shah
Founder of Maksika
It was a few years ago when I decided to take a leap and put my corporate career on hold for a while. After working for a few years in glass buildings, tiny cubicles and 9-late night schedules, I left my consulting job and returned back home to Ahmedabad. It was a couple of years back when my friend and current partner, Pritesh introduced me to a beekeeper friend of his and got me hooked to pure raw honey and the fascinating bees who create it. Fast forward to late last year and several conversations, article and videos later, we quickly realized that most of us love honey but do not understand what goes into making it. The idea of creating a brand that talks bee happiness, and makes them a part of our everyday lives, struck me and we thought of giving it a try. So we did.
